Since last Spring, Spin has printed city profiles including restaurants and entertainment. December's issue has a two-page spread on Nashville with a sidebar feature dedicated to the local rockers.

"72 Hours In Nashville" mentions a few of my favorite things: Grimey's New and Preloved Music, City Hall, Exit/In, Pancake Pantry; the basics that make a visit truly meaningful: Country Music Hall of Fame, Ryman Auditorium, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge and The Bluebird Cafe; and the rockers that we support, De Novo Dahl, Paramore, The Pink Spiders, Forget Cassettes, Be Your Own Pet, Apollo Up! and The Shazam. Of course, it was not complete without namedropping Brentwood resident Jack White, recent groom Kid Rock and the U.K.'s favorite group of Nashvillians Kings of Leon.

The article's opening sentence, however, pressed my pet peeve button: "Put away that cowboy hat, unless you want to look like a tourist." I get annoyed when attending a "big" concert and the musician wears a cowboy hat and says "I didn't know Nashville was so rock 'n' roll!?!?" Duh. We are the Music City.

Spin almost lost my love last Spring with a new editor (whom was canned from Blender) and a cover featuring Beyonce (when the cover was rumored to showcase Thom Yorke). That editor was pink-slipped again. They have since improved and I was very happy to read about Nashville in such a postive way. My only problem is that I've never heard of most of the bands they review -- [cracking knuckles] -- but that's all the more reason for further music exploration. Wish me luck.
