Welcome back to The Melting Pot!
The first act to grace our pages is the band MELLOW DOWN EASY. The band consists of Rodney Russell on drums & percussion, Andrew Adkins playing guitar & singing and Daryl Dasher on bass & background vocals. The latter two grew up together in North-West Ohio and have played in bands together since the 7th grade!
The band's sound, dubbed by some as "Blues/Groove" or "neo-psychedelic" is a melting pot of countless musical influences. Touches of the late 1960's Brit-Rock Sound, 70's rock n' roll, Motown Soul, Chicago and Delta Blues, Old School Country, improv Jazz, all tied together by an infectious 3 piece groove that only this combination of musicians can produce, results in a unique sound of their very own. Through the years the band has received praise from revered artists like Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch, Chuck Mead (BR5-49), Robert Reynolds (Mavericks), Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd) & George Jones.
Following in the footsteps of fellow Middle Tennessee band and mainstream success story, Mt. Juliet's Kings Of Leon, Mellow Down Easy is quickly building a name for themselves in the South-East & North-Central Regions of the United States as well as several parts of Europe, where their music has gained radio airplay.
In England their music got in the hands of Mersey-based Indie label, Chromium Records who have recently signed the band to a promotions/record contract. Their song, "Last Time (Got A Feeling)" has been recently gaining them a lot of radio play & attention in cities such London and Liverpool. The song is also featured on a compilation CD, "Innovation" (Chromium, U.K.) which features various bands from around the World.
Fresh out of the studio, Mellow Down Easy just finished recording the follow-up to 2002's, "The Splendid Ms. Maizie". The new album, titled "Brothers Of The Left Hand Path", has a much broader and more diverse sound this time around. From the opening, "She's The Only Girl" to the Everly Brothers meets Band Of Gypsys meets Radiohead vibe of "Human Nature", to the soft, acoustic/piano gem "Bring Me Down" the band leaves you wanting to hear more.
Over all, these songs are all tied together by Mellow Down Easy's signature "blues-funk", groove-laden, soulful sound.
