The BooDogs hold a special place for me because the first JPAUL
show was played with The Boo Dogs at The Cannery the day after
the catastrophic tornado of 1998 way back when they looked like this
I had never heard the term “cock rock” before (for some reason), until my buddies Tina (

)and Dean schooled me on the word and got me pumped up about playing w/ the Boo Dogs. I remember playing my set and being responsible for such massive amounts of my gear afterwards that I wasn’t able to focus on more than a couple of their songs.I did remember that ace lead guitarist Richard Kimzey

wore his influence (Eddie Van Halen) on his sleeve and if you didn’t like it, screw you. Good stuff.
lets do a quick comparison of the two acts :
J.Paul – lots of amps and guitars, massive pedalboard / Boo Dogs – one amp, one guitar, one pedal
J.Paul – lots of keyboards, some balls / Boo Dogs – no keyboards, massive balls
J.Paul – pleasantly loud / Boo Dogs – “get yer grandma outta here” loud
J.Paul - has different band every other show / Boo Dogs - is still a band even when they break up
A couple of years later I caught them at The Outer Limits (when I was off the road) and they had become one of the most fun local bands to go see. They were, at one point, the big daddy MTSU cover band to stomp around Murfreesboro. So I was stoked to find them on MySpace as I thought they had broken up. When I cruised over to The Music Stop in Murfreesboro for a quick mid-rehersal interview, it wasn’t so much an interview as it was just letting the tape roll. Since there wasn’t a beginning, middle, or end I had to do some editing for some conciseness. They drank Kentucky Tavern, I sat in on “Unchained”, and talked them into another round of “I’m the One” (from Van Halen1) The names of the not so innocent have been bleeped (though not entirely so you might be able to guess), so as not to encourage more dissension. I couldn’t bleep the entire interview so there is
explicit language and adult content.
