Friday June 2nd-the band headed I-65 North to Owensboro, Ky. Kung Pow was playing the “Live After 5” City Fest on the river (It’s a free concert series the city has all summer long on Friday nights…..kinda like what Nashville USE to have). Bonepony had played the previous show and it was our weekend now. We had Joe (last name withheld for all you stalker chicks) in tow with us for the Friday show. Joe works at The Soundpost in Chattanooga and is a veteran of the cover circuit, a fine player, and a nice guy. We hadn’t been able to find anyone that met the ideal criteria to replace me from our recent Scene ads and we were considering using him to sub in the coming months.
FOH and monitors were top notch. We had dressing rooms but no food (a minor oversight). I remember the show being pretty average. I let Joe do whatever solos he felt comfortable with and we mouthed parts from across the stage (….”you take the low octave and I’ll take the high one”…..). I should mention that the demographic for a show of this nature was 4 to 90 ; needless to say we didn’t play “Bitch” or “I Touch Myself”. The other groups slated for this summer were 50s and beach music so were were the heaviest thing (!). The Cromwell Group had their local pop station 105.7 The Party at the event but I didn’t make it by the mobile to say hello. Afterwards I was taken aback at the high school girls that said I was sexy and wanted the usual after show stuff (ugh….I’m like…old enough to be your father).....Segments of Chris Hanson’s Dateline MySpace sexual predators series flashed through my mind. You know the guy that “isn’t a Doctor but plays one on TV”?? Well I’m not a rockstar but I play one onstage. However,if I was seventeen I would be willing to go to detention just to sit next to one of those cuties.
Back in the van.
Back to Nashville.
Slept in my own “bed”.
Back in the van again at 11:30 the next morning and headed down I-40 East towards Knoxville. After a rigorous 15 minuete drive the band pulled over at the Taco Bell in Lebanon. Everyone else went for food while I was approached by a homeless man for ……ok it wasn’t a homeless man , it was a fellow from New Monsoon

.New Monsoon is a San Francisco jam band. They did Bonaroo last year and are touring with Moe soon. They had played The Exit/ In the night before, were checking out of the hotel and had come over for some friendly road chat. We arrived at The Knoxville Zoo just before Saturday’s interstate traffic monstrosity. We were playing a fund raising benefit for their annual auction. The stage was slanted at an extreme angle. It looked like a speedbump . Very strange. We didn’t have dressing rooms but we had food. Good food. Good catered food. We were taken with the lovely Jennifer (one of the coordinators).Everyone thought she looked like Sara Evans while I thought she looked like Pamela Rogers (hot, naughty, sex offender teacher chick)

. We had a couple of hours to kill after soundcheck so we got to take a private animal tour. About 15 minuetes in I opted out and went back to the party. So while the socialites were filing in there I was with my flip flops, no dressing room, nowhere to go and no van keys again(see #1

)......at least I hadn’t painted my toenails black for the summer yet. The show was good. The food was great. Lots of $ was raised for The Zoo and we headed home.
.....as I drove my 4 a.m. shift home down I-40 West between Lebanon and Mt.Juliet I noticed a billboard (for a blasting or construction company) captioned “Rockin’ Nashville”.If you live out that direction send us a picture of that.
