Bleed The Sky

California's own Bleed The Sky seems to have literally fallen from the sky and landed themselves right in the middle of metal recognition at an alarming speed.  In a press release from bands label, Nuclear Blast we found out that Bleed the Sky was asked to join Ill Niňo, God Forbid, Silent Civilian, and Eyes of Fire on the Jagermeister sponsored "One Nation Undivided" tour 2006.  The tour will kick off in New York on May 10, 2006 and hit twenty eight cities to conclude in New Jersey.  A plan to keep going on this tour with more dates is unconfirmed, but in the making I was told when speaking with Nuclear Blast representatives.

What an impressionable start for these six musicians who have never played together before.  From the onset of releasing their debut album,  Paradigm In Entropy,  Bleed The Sky's introduction into the competitive industry of metal is nothing to be scoffed at. Receiving much acclaim and recognition from starting off on two US tours with My Ruin and a short jog through the midwest with American HeadCharge, DieCast and IndexCase the boys found out upon returning home that they were to open up for Disturbed and BloodSimple for two shows in Los Angeles of late January 2006.  On a steady course the band then headed out for an European tour with the likes of HateBreed, Agnostic Front, and Napalm Death.  Once again when the members came off the road they were surprised to find out yet another tour was awaiting them.  Front man of Latino metal band Ill Niňo,  Cristian Machado a fan of Bleed The Sky personally requested to add them to the lineup.  Accepting with pride once more to be able to stand among some of their heaviest influences the band is more then happy to be headed back out on the road.
With unstoppable force,  this band seems to never say no!. An endless tour schedule, promoting, and a drive for success,  Bleed The Sky seems destined for a long standing career in music.  Fueled by determination, the band proved how serious they were when the theft of equipment from their tour bus did not detour them.  Loyal fans, friends, and family came together and donated money at a benefit concert to help cover the cost of equipping the band with new gear.

Extreme metal, powerful yet understandable lyrics, searing dual guitars, combined with exceptional bass and percussion, this band draws in many fans of metal.  On my way into the first performance that I was to experience from Bleed The Sky and interview with vocalist, Noah Robinson, I popped in Paradigm In Entropy and was surprised at how easy it was to listen too.  I am a fan of the metal genre, but I am more of a fan of the live concerts.  The recorded version of most metal bands that I work with are usually to powerful and strange to me.  However, I have found that more often then not that the live show of these many acts end up leaving me with a whole new perspective and appreciation for the band and their music.  The raw energy displayed at any metal concert is powerful and intense.  So back to my story. While driving down the infamous Sunset Boulevard and listening to this debut album,  I found myself mesmerized when hearing a strong presence of dual bass drums that shook my car with powerful rhythm.  Song after song, this permeation made an impact like none other. Drummer, Austin D'Amond is above and beyond talented with an underlying strength in this band.  While talking with front man Noah I mentioned how the first thing that stood out to me as the listener was this element.  Noah had this to say,  " Austin is just over skilled.  Track three from this album also entitled "Paradigm In Entropy" is all drums.  The guitar work is cool, all of it is cool,  but you hear his drums from front to back all the way through and it is just so brilliant.  He was able to do it tastefully.  He wrote most of his drum patterns and then we threw the guitars and vocals in after that.  So we left the room for the drum parts.  Anyone who is a musician that listens to our album says, "Dude, track three, your drummer is a God" or they say, "he is an animal."  We are very fortunate to have him.  He is a dedicated musician also which is a hard combination to find.  Musicianship, creativity, ambition and dedication.  You know,  if you lose one of these someone ends up leaving.  So are so lucky to have Austin."

My next question was about the album title and track title, Paradigm In Entropy.  Both evoking and enticing my curious mind I had to ask how this unique title came to be
Noah - "We were familiar with Paradigm.  The first time I heard the word was with a Christian metal band I used to listen to by the name of Mortal.  I thought that word was cool so I looked it up and liked what it symbolized.  That was already there in my head.  We originally were just going with the word Paradigm.  We were just going to have a one word album.  Then we started thinking about it.  Paradigm is too easy for fans to figure out and it will not stick in their minds.  Let us try to make it more challenging.  We wanted to describe everything that we talk about on the record in one phrase. We thought, about what would describe it best.   So Kyle (lead and rhythm guitars) comes to rehearsal one night and says,  "Hey, I heard this word and I looked it up and think it is what we are looking for".  The word was Entropy.  Paradigm in Entropy.  We liked it.  We liked the way it sounded.  But did it fit with what we were doing?  For us, everything is made to be broken.  Everything beautiful eventually will come crashing down.  There is a means to an end with everything you do and experience..  Basically it was the point to every song on the record.  Whether it is a relationship, religion, or anything else.   It is challenging everything.  The randomness.  Paradigm is an example or a pattern so for us.  This album is the forthcoming of what to expect. Get a taste,  like what you hear,  and new shit is just going to explode from us.   It is going to be like Pantera's  style in which each album that came out from them,  you were left saying "Fuck yeah",  this is the best yet,  and what was the name of the album before this?   This is what we want to impact on you.  We do not want you to forget about the album previous to each new release,  but we want each one to be better then before.  So why not show what we are going for.  Advertise it on the front of the album.  Boom.  Announce it to the world.

When asking about his writing styles and what the meaning to the music they create relates to the vocalist stated:
"Everything on this album is about something we have experienced.  Almost every song starts out about something beautiful, and then at the climactic point of each song,  you witness that it all comes crashing down.  That is where you start screaming.  Song such as "The Martyr" have insane harmonies pulsating through out.  Each song is clean and soft. "The Martyr" chorus states that, "There is no God, we would of engaged by now,  it's only me."   This can be taken out of context and fans of ours that are Christian,  have come up to us and said, "So why do you guys hate God?".  We have to explain that they are taking it the wrong way.  Even my Mom, who is a firm Christian came to me and asked what does this mean?  So, I had to explain to her what it meant.
I got to hear Noah's version of this relating to him but took an oath of secrecy.  You need to take this and implement your own feelings and thoughts and if you really listen closely and enough times you might be given enough clues to Noah's version.  Continuing on,and coming to the point of all of this, Noah summed it up with:   "This is what I like.  I do not want it to be a grade school riddle.  I want people to have to listen to it a thousand times and go, (snaps his finger), Oh, I see, or they take it metaphorically for what they want it to mean.   Most people have no idea what this song means to me.  I had this kid come up to me at one of our shows and say, "that song, "Leverage."  It saved my life."  Well of course when hearing this kind of a statement it sparks my interest.  This kid tells me his story of how bad his life was before hearing my song and when I asked him how this song saved him he explained that it was the way I worded it.  I did not use any specific words that referred the song to me such as the word, I, me, or us.  This allowed him to relate to the words in his own window of perception.  I like it when people explain what one of my songs lyrics means to them.  This is an edge we have that I think is strong.  Writing in a sense that whatever I put down on paper and what it means to me, in a sense means something of its own to you.  Not everyday do I hear someone say that a song of mine saved their life.  There was a point in my life when Alice In Chains did this for me.  It was the,  Jar Of Flies album that meant this much to me and keep me going.   Alice in Chains were my saving grace.  If I had ever met Layne Stanley it would of been amazing.  It was so effortless for him.  Some people really have to think when playing and study what they do.  Layne was an exception and just brilliant in his own mind.

I could not agree more with Noah on this ending statement.  Layne surely is missed and every fan is still mourning the loss of him to a senseless addiction.

So in conclusion, if you are lucky enough to catch Bleed The Sky on tour, then I suggest you do so.  And with the many requests and surprise tours with International and National acts well established for them to join in, my thoughts are that soon, you will catch this band as they hurl through space to make their mark in metal.

Thanks go out to Noah and the rest of the crew for allowing me to become a fan and friend as they are some of the nicest and comical groups out there.  Getting them to stand still for a group shot is hard enough, let alone get a serious photograph.  Also to Loana of Nuclear Blast for the faith and continued support of my work with her label's many talented acts
