Early morning, freezing outside, and I’m running late.  The car’s not quite warmed up but I race on watching my breath disappear into the air while yawning.  I’m heading to the salon but not really feeling like a people person this morning.  My day ahead is long and tedious; since I’m not a caffeine junkie, I must resort to other means to awaken the happy hairstylist within me.  Remembering I have this new-to-me cd, Fall, I pop it in for a listen. 

               WOW!!!  From the moment the intro begins, pure intensity blasts out my speakers and this get-in-the-pit energy soars through me awakening any sleepy bone I had.  I turn it up a little, little more; by the time track 5 is on, I have to adjust the mix to accommodate the loudness.  Since I have quite a commute to work, I was able to listen to the album in its entirety.  Never was I disappointed, breakfast was metaliscious!  What a beautiful morning; the sunrise in the bitter cold, driving fast down country roads, and much metal in my head!  Game on…bring on the screaming squirmy kids and step up, you picky patrons!

Fall, derailed’s 2004 Self produced release, is a must have for any true metal fan.  The album is extreme from intro to outro, devastating and destroying one track after another.  Heavy riffs laced with thundering bass makes up the concrete backbone, and then from the vocals come this unexpected range of iron lungs which completes their sound.  It’s the perfect mixture of old skool’s morals with nu skool’s ways of thinking.  Sorry to be so cliché, but this album is right on track!    

Each track offers a new perspective, which is quite refreshing since I can easily be bored.  No worries, nothing boring here!  “Falling Down” was the perfect intro to the release with its drive and brutality.  “hurry up and wait”, Awaken”, and “deceived” quickly became my favorites; at times, the vocals reminded me of a young Zack De La Rocha (aww…the good ole days).  I find myself randomly singing the chorus of “Painted Face”.  I have listened to Fall many times, sometimes repeatedly, and yet have I burned myself out.  That is confirmation of a great album!

In 2000, derailed was formed in the ‘boro.  After going through a few lineup changes, in 2006, the guys disbanded.  It saddens me to say I never witnessed the full effect of a live show…so, how bout a reunion…come on, you know you want to!
