john: i (john) started this band five years ago in my parents basement my senior year of highschool. we wrote some songs that are still floating around out there somewhere in some landfill. most likely a rumpke landfill. we recorded our first attempt at a demo at ultrasuede studios in cincinnati, ohio. the songs were humorous at best due to my inability to write songs at the time. as the years went by, we took a stab at recording as a whole band again at the same studio with the same engineer and it came out a a bit nicer. with that said the band basically broke up when i went to college.
that year, being 2002, i started writing more songs and recording them as acoustic demos for evan and tom to listen to, and they basically got lost and forgotten about. there were some pretty good songs on those tapes/cds, some of which we still use.
after i started playing drums in the band The Minor Leagues (minorleaguesmusic.com, myspace.com/theminorleagues) evan decided that doing a duo of acoustic stuff would be interesting and worthwhile. we did that project for a while under the name "venus and serena" (a name that i thought was referring to the song of the same title by the super furry animals, which was actually the names of the williams sisters). when we realized the same feeling wasnt there without the rock aspect and electric guitars, we recruited ben hart to fill in on bass. it didnt last long, and by the end of my last semester of school in 2004, the band was thought to have had its end.
in 2004/2005 i was living in cincinnati and evan (drums) and tom (original bassist) were still in greenville, evan working and tom attending school at miami university. we took a stab at doing the band once again, and among schedule conflicts and personal feuds the band saw another end.
meanwhile, i had made friends with a longtime aquaintence from school, zach mccabe. zach and i never really got along during school, however something drew us together. we began playing music together to pass time before zach moved to florida and i to sandiego, california. needless to say, these plans never panned out.
due to apartment difficulties and last minute mind changes, zach moved to florida for a day and moved back home. i was in the process of moving to san diego when i heard the news of zachs arrival. after talking about it a while, we came to the conclusion that writing and performing music together was a great idea, and i asked him to help me recussitate "albinovega". zach agreed and the rest is "history", so to speak.
