limits.jpg

Admittedly, this is a hypocritical topic for me to write about- I’m the first to tell you that I don’t like limits, especially the speed type.  But, as I sit here listening to a record (yes, an actual vinyl disc thingy that’s spinning on a turntable) it’s gotten me thinking about some things…like limits. (MORE)

hootie.jpg

“The ‘90s are coming back!” That’s what a friend of mine said upon first hearing about Hootie  & the Blowfish’s concert last Monday. For the past two years, we’ve watched the return of artists like Green Day, Pearl Jam, Fiona Apple, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Toadies and Goo Goo Dolls — musicians that defined our youth. (MORE)

In the music business, the mold is to be hard-nosed and ready to do anything you have to in order to further your career.  Even if this includes going against your better judgment.  But with all rules, there is the exception.  And her name is Lisa Loeb, the lighthearted and musically soulful singer/songwriter from Dallas, Texas who decided to take the world by storm. The band Overzealous IS a group of zealots. The three-piece of Dustin Sellers, Brad Crittendon and Tim Adler sound fanatical about 90’s alternative rock. After the sun set Friday night June 16th, 2006 the streets of Cookeville were quiet all except for South Depot St., home of The Factory Live Music Club in Cookeville, Tn. Point Blank took the Stage as the opening Band for the night, straight out of Tallahassee, FL. With their metal krunch riffs , funky bass lines, low tone high energy drumming, and lyrical hip-hop undertones with melodic demands all wraps together to make a sound they call "Drop D Digital krunch".

In my last article I talked about how much a bad demo can cost a band, not necessarily in terms of the price of recording, but rather the cost measured in missed opportunities.   The next logical step would be to talk about the actual price (dead presidents, benjamins, moolah, green, cabbage, etc.) of a good demo.  Well, I’m not going to do that.  It just wouldn’t be my style.
